Interconnected maximum likelihood estimator and extended Kalman filter for inertial measurement unit calibration fusing three-dimensional camera information

چکیده
This article presents a method for calibration of inertial sensors (gyroscopes and accelerometers). In the proposed selfcalibration method, interacted extended Kalman filter and maximum likelihood estimator are applied for estimation of motion state parameters and calibration parameters (biases and scaling factors), respectively. The extended Kalman filter is employed to estimate nonlinear Gaussian attitude kinematics fusing three-dimensional camera information given the estimated calibration parameters. These parameters are estimated in maximum likelihood–based system identification module and transferred to the state estimation module to estimate motion parameters. The calibration square error is then formulated and the effect of model mismatch is evaluated. The approach takes advantage of modular design, sensor fusion, and self-calibration. Self-calibration makes the method economically efficient because it does not rely on using a mechanical platform rotating the inertial measurement unit into different precisely controlled orientations. Experimental results based on data from a three-dimensional microelectromechanical system–based inertial measurement unit and a three-dimensional camera system are used to demonstrate the efficiency of the method. Comparisons are also provided to compare the method with state-of-the-art approaches.

The estimation of situation in a combinational navigation GPS/INS with least number of satellites is the main purpose of this paper. As inertial measurement unit uses altimeter for height measurement, we can assume which height poses certain amounts, whereas geographical length and width are unknown to us in this paper. The single difference GPS is employed for updating the inertial navigation ...
متن کاملFusing vision-based bearing measurements and motion to localize pairs of robots
This paper presents a method to cooperatively localize pairs of robots fusing bearing-only information provided by a camera and the motion of the vehicles. The algorithm uses the robots as landmarks to estimate the relative location between the platforms. Bearings are obtained directly from the camera, as opposed to measuring depths which would require knowledge or reconstruction of the world s...
متن کاملVision Aided Inertial Navigation
Today GPS aided inertial navigation is widely used and well studied in any aspects. The good short term properties of inertial data are complemented by the long term stability of the GPS signal. A common approach is to use a Kalman filter for fusing GPS and inertial data to constrain the inertial sensor drift. Although this is working well in many applications there is a need to find a similar ...
